Paul Weiner - Principal Architect
I landed in Tucson as a wide-eyed 18-year old 34 years ago, fresh from the Midwest and a childhood of summers spent in the Laurentian (Canadian Appalachian) Mountains. Many visits to the West in my youth, and at 17, a very personal journey into the Tetons and Wind River range of Wyoming left an impression of beauty and wildness that sealed my fate as a naturalist and Westerner…
A humanistic upbringing, a degree in Environmental Planning, a formative stint as a carpenter/builder and a subsequent degree in Architecture from the University of Arizona, laid the foundation for the beginnings of the DesignBuild Collaborative in 1984. Over the years, my love of the desert and my reliance on natural and constructed beauty as a personal elixir, along with a carpenter’s passion for process and craft formed the foundation of a multi-year alliance with many passionate and talented architects and builders. Today I am honored to share this practice with a delightful and dedicated group of committed professionals.
As the principal architect/builder for DBC, I keep current licensure as an architect and Residential/Commercial General Contractor, and when time permits teach a Land Ethics design studio as an Adjunct Lecturer in the College of Architecture at the University of Arizona.
