Located in a rural setting west of Tucson, this residence responds to the site with a vernacular approach and a traditional exterior presence. Once inside, the thoughtful composition of concrete, rammed earth, exposed structural steel, heavy fir timbers and corrugated sheet metals creates a contemplative poetic interplay of raw mass and lighter metallic skins. The resultant quality falls somewhere between the comfort and familiarity of the traditional and the expansive qualities assigned to more contemporary work, a quality that DBC aspires to achieve.
